Beetroot is also known as garden beet. This sweet, healthy vegetable is loaded with antioxidants. The plant is edible in its entirety, from the leaves to the root. The taproot ranges in shape from globular to long and tapered. Skin and flesh colours are usually dark purplish red, though some are nearly white or orange. Beets are a cool-weather crop that should be planted in early to midspring and late summer to early fall. They have a short enough growth cycle that you can actually plant them at any time, as long as you can keep them fairly cool.
Beets are earthy, delicious vegetables that are easy to grow in a garden or in a greenhouse. They can even grow them in pots indoors or on the porch. As with many root vegetables, beets are easy to store, making them an ideal vegetable to stock up on for long winters.

How to sow:
– The beet seeds are large and chunky, and each seed is actually a fruit cluster with multiple tiny seeds inside.
– Before planting your seeds, soak them in warm water for up to an hour.
– Seeds of beetroot can be sown about 1.5 cm deep leaving a distance of about 7cm in between.
– Keep the row spacing about one foot apart.
– Cover the beet seeds in a thin layer of soil and water the area.
– The beetroot takes about 2 months to grow from sowing to maturity. The mature height of the plant is about 9 cm.
